  FRIENDS OF HRFC

Many people have asked about new ways of fundraising for the club for next season. As a result the club have decided to launch the FRIENDS OF HRFC fundraiser.
Quite simply, you are asked to make a monthly contribution of £15-£20, payable by standing order, to support HRFC. You, in return, have the satisfaction of knowing that you have contributed towards YOUR Club, its growth and economic survival on a day to day basis and in its future promotion of grass roots rugby football in Hereford for all ages and levels.
All who sign up will be recognised on "Roll of Honour" page which will appear in every issue of the match programme. Numbers are limited so we ask you to register your interest as early as possible. Details are available from Rod Edwards and Gareth Griffiths at the Club bar, from Jackie in the Sin Bin Café (mobile 07817 895283), from Andy Mifflin who can generally be found floating around the club premises or from Jackie and Andy Mifflin on 01432 355583 during office hours.
Even if this is something that you personally can not undertake but you know someone who could or would be interested, be it brother, uncle, sister, mother, please let them know as all are asked to lend their help and support for local rugby for local people. After all, it is nice to know you have ‘Friends’ on your side.

  RFU DRAW TICKETS

The RFU draw tickets have been distributed. Your help in selling and/or buying tickets will be appreciated. This could be an excellent source of revenue to the club and is targeted as our big money earner for Quarter 1 of 2008.

MEMBERS SIX NATIONS INTERNATIONAL TICKET BALLOT

The winner of the first draw was JON COOK. Jon brought his wife Dianne to this all expenses paid match worth £1,700. He told us he had a fantastic day, apart from the rugby! The day, kindly sponsored by EVENTS INTERNATIONAL, included speakers Gareth Edwards and Martin Johnson.

  100 CLUB DRAW 2007/08

Hereford RFC thank all those who participated in last year’s 100 Club draw. The tickets for this year’s draw are £50 and are nearly sold out. If you have not yet been approached please ring Guy Griffiths on 01432 268906.
The prizes are as last year, draws to take place for each month of the rugby season: September to April. Due to a delay in receiving the tickets from the printer the September and October draws will take place in November and the November and December draws in December.
Last season we raised over £3,000 and, to put this into perspective, it costs well over double that figure to keep the pitches in a playable condition. In supporting the 100 Club and other club fundraisers you help all players young and old and remember we never pay players.

  £4M NEW GROUND PLANS UNVEILED

Plans for a new £4 million community-based Hereford Rugby Club are included in a major development at Hampton Bishop on the outskirts of the city, details of which were unveiled this week. The biggest advance in the county's sporting sector for many years, the new club is part of a 100-acre site at Holywell Gutter Lane, off Hampton Park Road owned by a local businessman whose proposals combine commercial and community interests at the heart of his scheme. Some of the site will be devoted to a purpose-built retirement village and a number of executive homes are planned, to help fund the Rugby Club.
"We have been looking at a number of possible sites to accommodate a new club and all the facilities that go with it for some time. Our existing club at Wyeside has served us well, to the point where we have become such a stronghold for county community rugby that we are bursting at the seams. It's not unusual for us to have up to 400 youngsters training at Wyeside on a Sunday - and the interest in the sport among our seven to 12-year-old Minis and the 13 to 18-year-olds in our Junior section has grown consistently", said club chairman Guy Griffiths.
"Although we have one of the largest Junior Sections in the Midlands, we are arguably rated fourth in the county below Luctonians, Ledbury and Bromyard, in terms of our existing facilities. The new club would really put Hereford on the map as a centre of excellence for rugby, along side those clubs that have had the chance to develop and modernise their facilities in recent years. As well as providing excellent playing, training and youth development opportunities, we are keen to encourage other sports, schools, colleges and the community to use our club facilities. And taking our opportunity to be part of the Hampton Bishop scheme would not cost the hard pressed tax-payer a penny", he said.
The Hereford club has been looking to make a move from its riverside base for some time, with sites in the city's Whitecross, Belmont and Worcester Road areas failing to meet Rugby Union requirements.
"We are now established on the North Midlands RFU facility plan, and a move to Hampton Bishop could mean English representative sides playing at Hereford", he added. The outline plan, which also includes a tree-lined public open space at its road frontage, has already been discussed with Hampton Bishop Parish Council, and a detailed version is expected to be submitted and put out for consultation by the end of the year.
