Final, beating Moseley 10-5 at Dudley Kingswinford. |

FIRST
XV FIXTURE CANCELLED |
|
The
First XV home fixture against Malvern scheduled for
Saturday 7 May 2011 has been cancelled.
Malvern have taken
advantage of an informal and unwritten amendment to
the RFU rules enabling the cancellation of matches
which have no effect on promotion or relegation
issues and which had been rescheduled for a date
after 30th April. A representative of the League
management tells us that they believed all clubs
were aware of the amendment and had agreed to them.
The Hereford club had no knowledge of these changes
until informed by a representative of Malvern RFC
that they would not be honouring the fixture with
Hereford scheduled for 7th May. Representatives of
the Hereford club have discussed this matter with a
number of RFU and Midland Divisional officials and
have indicated the club’s intention to register a
formal complaint that an unwritten rule has
apparently been allowed to take precedence over
published League rules and regulations. The
unilateral cancellation of this fixture by Malvern
has cost the Hereford club a significant amount of
revenue in terms of gate receipts and bar takings.
However the worst aspect of the incident is the
potential loss of goodwill from our main sponsor
Tudor Building Supplies Ltd who were to have
entertained a number of their important customers at
the game with Malvern. The club’s support base has
also been denied the opportunity to show their
appreciation to the players for their sterling
efforts in not just avoiding relegation but doing it
in style. |
