HEREFORD 22 - 17 WORCESTER WANDERERS |
Wyeside, Saturday 11 December 2004 |
Merit League Division 2 |
A hastily assembled Hereford thirds took on
Worcester Wanderers seconds at Wyeside on Saturday and in an entertaining
game the home side eventually triumphed 22-17.
Hereford started with thirteen men but were soon joined by centres Ben Stevens and Lewis Hayde and it was good handling by the latecomers which allowed wing Louis Fairbrother to outpace the defence for an opening touchdown. Scrumhalf Lyndon Day added the conversion. The visitors were soon on level terms when they scored a converted try of their own and midway through the first period they took a three point lead with a penalty from in front of the posts. Neither side were able to add to their score before the interval but some stern words from pack leader Rod Edwards led to a marked improvement in Hereford's second half performance and after a try from Hayde and two from number eight Duncan Bailey the home side took a stranglehold on the game. The Wanderers never gave up and were rewarded with a converted try in the last play of the game but the earlier burst of scoring had put the result beyond doubt. |
