| WEDNESDAY 8 APRIL 2009 - LUCTONIANS 17 - 56 HEREFORD | ||||||||||||||||
|
Hereford 2nds put on a sparkling display
of attacking rugby to beat Luctonians 2nds 56 - 17 in the semi-final
of the Floodlit Cup at Mortimer Park on Wednesday night. The match
which doubled as the Reserve Team League encounter started with a
number of penalties conceded by the visitors and although the home
side missed two attempts at goal they eventually broke the deadlock
with a successful kick after 20 minutes. Hereford's response was
immediate when number eight Will Watkins picked up from the base of a
serum and fed scrumhalf Simon Sabel who went over for a try which was
converted by wing Morgan Goodall. The hosts were then reduced to
fourteen players after a dangerous tackle on Hereford centre Richard
Rees who recovered to feed fullback Sean Day for a try which was again
converted by Goodall but Luctonians hit back shortly before the
interval when they capitalised on an error to score a converted try
and reduce the deficit to four points. The second period opened with a superb individual try for Goodall which he also converted but once again some loose play allowed their opponents back into the game with a converted try of their own but this proved to be Luctonians last score as Hereford turned on the style to run in five converted tries in the last twenty minutes. Day and Sabel both touched down under the posts, lock Ben Adams powered over from forty meters before flyhalf Kieran Hallam sliced through a shell-shocked defence for another try. The outstanding flanker Trevor Bufton capped an excellent display with Hereford's last touchdown and the immaculate Goodall added his eighth conversion to complete the scoring. |
