SATURDAY 4 FEBRUARY 2006 - HEREFORD  15 - 12  DRYBROOK
Hereford's 2nd XV continued their recent policy of seeking out challenging opposition when they took on Drybrook in a friendly fixture at Wyeside on Saturday and were rewarded with a dramatic last kick victory.
The visitors fielded a particularly strong pack of forwards and dominated territorially during the first 20 minutes but the home side defended strongly and gradually worked their way upfield and were unlucky not to score through two breaks by fullback Sean Day.
The half finished scoreless and, with the elements in their favour, Hereford fancied their chances in the second period but it was Drybrook who score first with an unconverted try after eight minutes. The home side responded with a number of attacks which promised much but broke down at the final pass stage and after a rare excursion into Hereford's 22 metre area the visitors scored their second try when their centre went over under the posts and, with the conversion added, the lead was stretched to twelve points with ten minutes of the game remaining.
Hereford then played their best rugby of the match and a combination between both props Andy Mason and Tony Shaw and number eight Jamie Bullock provided the opening for scrumhalf Simon Sabel to dart over for a try which flyhalf Will Bolt converted. This left Hereford with six minutes to score again and right on cue centre Sam Ellis came up with the equalising touchdown in the corner after another drive from the forwards, Bolt's conversion attempt fell just short but he made amends in grand style when he slotted a 35 metre penalty with the last kick of the game for a final scoreline of 15 - 12.
SATURDAY 28 JANUARY 2005 - EVESHAM  12 - 5  HEREFORD
Hereford`s 2nd XV travelled to Evesham on Saturday where they took on the Worcestershire side's 1st XV in a friendly fixture which the home side won narrowly 12 - 5. With the wind in their favour the North Midlands 1 League leaders dominated territory in the first period and Hereford found it difficult to get out of their own 22 metre area although they nearly scored in the first five minutes when fullback Ally Hunter-Blair was only denied when he trod on the touchline.
Dogged defence by the forwards and some pressure-relieving runs by Hunter-Blair and centre Ben Stephens meant the halftime whistle approached with the score at 0-0 but a penalty awarded close to the visitors line resulted in the referee awarding a penalty try due to the Hereford defence not retreating fast enough and with an easy conversion added the home side took a seven point lead into the second period.
The away team then began to enjoy a similar level of possession as their opponents had done in the first period and a series of forward drives enabled scrumhalf Simon Sabel who had replaced the injured Morgan Goodall to burrow over from the base of a ruck. The conversion was missed but it appeared thet Hereford were now in control and it was against the run of play when Evesham made a rare excursion into the opposing 22 and a lapse in defence let them in for a second try.
The remainder of the game involved predominantly the Hereford forwards who continually drove upfield from some good lineout ball won by lock Dan Lewis but they appeared reluctant to release the ball to the backs and were eventually dispossessed on numerous occasions. Centre Sam Ellis went close to scoring the vital equalising try with ten minutes remaining but was tackled just short of the line and in the last play of the game flyhalf Giles Scott made a 40 metre break but was unable to find his supporting players which left Evesham celebrating a win which had looked unlikely at the beginning of the second half.
SATURDAY 11 DECEMBER 2005 - SILHILLIANS  14 - 15  HEREFORD
Hereford's Second XV completed a great day for the Club when they emulated the first team by beating table topping Silhillians away from home on Saturday. The visitors who included eleven Under 19 players in the team started brightly and ran the ball at every opportunity to stretch the home side's defence and were rewarded with a penalty in front of the posts after ten minutes which was converted by scrumhalf Morgan Goodall for a three point lead.
The open rugby played by both sides continued to entertain the spectators and a quick penalty after twenty three minutes by centre Richard Rees led to a ruck near Sihillians line from which 17 year old flanker Bradley Welling scooped up the ball and dived over for a try which Goodall converted.
Hereford were well on top leading up to the interval and after lock Alex Rowberry had been denied a touchdown due to the referee being unsighted, Welling scored his second try this time following a 50 metre break by Goodall to give the visitors a fifteen point cushion going into the second period.
Silhillians regrouped during the halftime break and, with the slope in their favour, gained good territory which culminated in a converted try after a long period of pressure on the visitors line and with fifteen minutes of the match remaining they cut the deficit to one point with another touchdown which their scrumhalf also converted.
The youngsters however continued to run the ball and play high risk rugby until, with six minutes remaining, an attack on the right went badly wrong when the home side's fullback intercepted a pass on his own twenty two metre line and, with fullback Sean Day supporting in the line, he appeared to have the easy task of running in the winning try but although Day had given him a twenty metre start he recovered to make a match saving tackle close to Hereford's line and the visitor's supporting players all arrived in time to make the clearance. The last five minutes were frenetic but the experience of Dave Thomas at prop and the non-stop tackling of the Hereford forwards meant their line remained intact until the final whistle.
SATURDAY 19 NOVEMBER 2005 - HEREFORD  34 - 0  UNIVERSITY COLLEGE WORCESTER
Hereford 2nd beat UC Worcester 34-0 with tries from Thomas Jeffrey (2), Bradley Welling, Will Bolt, Crispin Street and Luke Smith. Morgan Goodall kicked two conversions.
SATURDAY 22 OCTOBER 2005 - HEREFORD 22 - 12 LUCTONIANS
Hereford Second XV once again included eight Colts players in the side which took on Luctonians Third XV in a merit table match at Wyeside on Saturday and the youngsters were again prominent in a 22 - 12 win.
After Luctonians had shaded the early forward exchanges Hereford opened the scoring when they stretched the visitors defence to put 17-year-old wing Dan Savagar in at the corner for the opening try which was superbly converted by Morgan Goodall to give the home side a seven point lead after fifteen minutes.
Luctonians hit back seven minutes later with a try from Dave Austyn which was converted by Shaun Kisiel to level the scores. The home side then took control of the game for the remainder of the half and good work by Hereford's forwards produced three penalties within the visitors 22 metre area which they declined to kick but were eventually rewarded when prop Mick Lowe crashed over for a try which was again converted by Goodall to double Hereford's lead at the interval.
Coach Pete Archer replaced Savagar ten minutes after the interval with another 17-year-old wing and with his first touch of the ball Austyn Johnson darted in for a try in the corner to stretch the lead to twelve points. A penalty by flyhalf Will Bolt put the result beyond doubt although Luctonians never gave up and severely tested the Hereford defence during the last quarter of the match and were rewarded with a consolation try for Colin Smith right on the final whistle.
SATURDAY 15 OCTOBER 2005 - MATSON 7 - 26 HEREFORD
Hereford 2nds included 8 U19 players in the side which visited Matson on Saturday and the blend of youth and experience proved a successful recipe when they eventually ran out comfortable 26 - 7 winners. However the result was in doubt for some time especially as the visitors allowed Matson a seven point start when poor tackling let the Gloucester side in for a converted try after just five minutes.
From the restart and an ensuing scrummage the Hereford front row of Rob Walsh, Jon Parry and Mike Lowe turned things round in dramatic fashion when they pushed their opponents off the ball allowing the youthful backline to show off their attacking slills and within seven minutes Hereford were level when left wing Tim Lutley touched down in the corner for a try which was converted by flyhalf Will Bolt.
The visitors continued to dominate in the forwards and although Bolt failed with a penalty attempt on the half hour the pressure remained on Matson's line and reward came when Walsh charged over for a try which was converted by Bolt to give Hereford the lead. Unfortunately in the very act of scoring Walsh sustained a serious head wound and was unable to continue which left Hereford a man down and also took away the considerable forward advantage as the scrums became uncontested.
A try in the corner just before the interval for right wing Richard Rees stretched the lead to twelve points and five minutes into the second period centre Billy Grisman spun out of a tackle to score a fine individual try which Bolt converted with a kick which was surprisingly the last score of the game. Matson had the lions share of possession for the rest of the half and some indifferent kicking left Hereford defending for long periods but the home side could not find a way through the fourteen man defence which eventually meant Hereford finished on top and went close to scoring again when Rees was adjudged to have put a foot in touch with the defence beaten.
