NUNEATON OLD EDWARDIANS  11 - 22  HEREFORD

Saturday 4 March 2006

Powergen Midlands 3 West (South)

Hereford took advantage of Ledbury’s shock win over Old Silhillians to move into second place in the Midlands 3 West (South) with a 22-11 win at Nuneaton OE.

The Hereford side were playing against a strong wind in the first half and initially went down 6-0 to a drop goal and penalty from the Nuneaton side.

Sean Day, just 17 and playing his first game for Hereford, then made a fantastic break from the halfway line, passing the ball on to Colin Osborne who scored and converted to make it 7-6. The side did well against the wind for the rest of the half and a penalty before half-time saw them 10-6 in front.

The beginning of the second half saw Tim Harvey make a 70-yard break and offload the ball to Ben Hillstead, who scored in the corner to make it 16-6.

However, from the kick-off the home side pressurised Hereford for 15 minutes which eventually told when they scored a try to make it 15-11. Ten minutes later Hereford made the game safe: Harvey made another break and gave the ball to captain Jeremy Grisman who beat two players and then passed back to Harvey, who went over the line to score. Colin Osborne converted to make it 22-11, which is how the match ended.

Hereford now need to win four more games to be certain of a play-off place. They play Bedworth at home this Saturday (2.30pm).
