Preece scored two tries and Osborne kicked four penalties and two conversions.

Hereford were first to put points on the board by landing an Osborne penalty after 3 minutes but Old Edwardians soon levelled the score by converting a penalty of their own.

Preece then supported a good Hereford move which he ended with him touching down for a try which Osborne converted.

In the last quarter of the half, however, Old Edwardians pressed hard with some rolling mauls. But Hereford defended well until on the stroke of half-time the visitors went over for a converted try which made it 10-10.

Early in the second period Osborne regained the lead with his second penalty and after that the city club dominated the play. Preece finished a four-phase attack by going over for his second try which Osborne again converted.

Old Edwardians pulled back three points by landing a penalty but Osborne put two more penalty kicks between the posts as the home team opened up their winning margin to 13 points.
