WOLVERHAMPTON  27 - 5  HEREFORD

Castlecroft, 8 February 2003

Powergen Midlands 2 West League

Any ambitions held by Hereford Rugby Club's First XV about promotion should be forgotten after they were hammered 27-5 by bottom placed Wolverhampton. The Wolves were soundly beaten by 101 points to 6 when they visited Hereford earlier in the season, but gave their visitors an object lesson in the art of rugby on Saturday as they ran in five tries to one and dominated in every department.

The home side's winger Jamie Midler-Price cut through Hereford's flat-footed defence for the first of his two tries as the visitors remained pinned into their own half, and sub Alan Grant took advantage of a rolling maul for another.

Full-back Rod England converted to make it 12-0, and Wolves fly-half Corrie Sweeny darted in for try number three within a minute of the re-start as Hereford continued to flounder.

Centre John Treacy added to Hereford's misery with Wolverhampton's fourth try and Midler-Price buried the visitors to make it 27-0.

Scrum-half Ben Jenkins emerged from the bottom of a pile-up to claim five points for the visitors. This Saturday Hereford travel to Bedworth in a Midlands 2 league game.
